As for “Straight White Male” movies, what about Stanley Kubrick? Or, more generally, FMJ and Apocalypse Now?


Good point! Although it’s a little difficult to think of Kubrick or Hitchcock as being the central example of anything. This is actually a really fascinating topic, as it’s something that comes up fairly often and everyone appears to have a good idea of what they think it means, yet it’s surprisingly tricky to pin down.

I feel like maybe we should apply the ancient wisdom of: “Judge things on their merits” instead of this modern idea where a work can be dismissed because the author has unpopular [gender/race/opinion].
