orthoceratite:

Whenever somebody uses gender as an argument why I should do something, I lose a lot of whatever respect I had for them.

“Vote for me because I’m a woman!”
“Vote for me because I’m a man!”
“Buy my app because it was developed by an all-female team!”
“Read this book because it was written by a woman!”
“Don’t listen to him. He’s a man. What could he possibly know?”
“Don’t listen to her. She’s a woman. What could she possibly know?”

I don’t think gender has any correlation whatsoever with the abilities to be a good leader, to program an interesting app, write a good book, or impart useful information…

Same, except even more with additional epistemological failure:

Even if the hypothetical idiot is correct about gender influence: It’s still not relevant!

Once written, the App is the App. It has the quality that the App has. Either the app is good or it is bad, and this is true no matter who wrote it. Learning the gender of the programmers does not retroactively make the app better or worse.

So to the Gender Essentialist I say: “You’re wrong, and even if you’re right, you’re wrong.”
