What is a “yeet”?

I thought it meant to repel something, but I tried using it to explain electrolysis to some young teenagers and they had no idea what I meant.

Ah yes, yeet, from the latin iacio, “to throw”. It’s cognate with such better-known english words as “yeetison”, “yeetsam”, and “eyect”.
